Biography
 


Ken has been creating animation since childhood when he was creating stop motion animation with his father’s 8mm camera. After graduating high school in 1975, he worked full time as a designer and screen printer creating custom handbags and other items for the Carnegie Melon and Smithsonian Institute gift shops.

In 1980 Ken majored in fine arts at Virginia Commonwealth University, then went on to Mason Gross School of the Arts, at Rutgers University where he continued studying art and animation. He has since created animation for both film and video, using a variety of different mediums from paper cut-out to clay animation. In 1987, he purchased his first computer, an Amiga 2000, and has been creating computer animation ever since.

In early 1989, Ken got a job working at Cinemasound Video in Arlington, Virginia where he quickly picked up Digital Arts, and early PC based 3D program. He soon went onto using Cubicomp’s Picturemaker, Alias Wavefront, Lightwave, and Maya. He was one of the early adopters of Lightwave having chosen it to base his first animation company, the Animation station, Inc, on and has continued using it since. He also has several years experience on Maya, being the program of choice for one of his customers.

Besides 3D, Ken also has experience doing visual effects and motion graphics work, with six years experience on Quantel Henry, two years on Flame, and three years experience on Combustion.

His work has been aired on the Discovery Channel, the Science Channel, Black Entertainment Television, and the NASA Channel. Some of his other clients have been Disney Imagineering, the Texas Energy Museum, the National Air and Space Museum, ExxonMobil, and the National Guard.

One of Ken’s hobbies is building custom musical instruments. As a master craftsman and luthier he has built many one of a kind instruments, from historical reproductions from the Renaissance to high-tech art guitars. He continues to explore, innovate and refine his craft. Besides making instruments, He is also skilled at playing them. He is a musician as well as a composer and has written music for such diverse genres as folk rock, grunge, and even house.
